Mission Statement
My Teaching Philosophy:
Every student deserves a teacher who sees their potential and meets them with patience, creativity, and genuine care. I teach with intention—tailoring each lesson to the student’s age, ability, and learning style. I’m not the drill-sergeant type (especially with my littles); I believe in positive reinforcement, playful structure, and lessons that spark joy. Because when students feel seen and supported, they don’t just learn—they thrive.
Adults can learn too

It’s never too late to learn something new—or rediscover a skill you thought was lost. Whether working with couples or solo learners, it’s incredibly rewarding to watch their musical confidence grow and dreams take shape.
Want it with a touch more whimsy or a musical metaphor? I’ve got riffs ready.
Age requirement
Children are most successful in early music instruction when they have a foundational grasp of the alphabet and can recognize common three-letter words. I typically recommend beginning lessons around ages 5 to 6, depending on each child’s reading ability, attention span, and emotional readiness. For my youngest students, I incorporate movement-based activities and kinesthetic learning techniques to keep their minds engaged and their bodies active—supporting both musical growth and overall development.

About me
I’m a music educator based in Artesia, NM, where I teach from my home studio and accompany musicians for concerts, auditions, and competitions. My wife and I moved here from Utah in 2022, and we’re raising a smart, sassy teen who inspires everything I do. I’ve served on the Utah Music Teachers Association board and judged state-level AIM competitions. Outside of teaching, I find joy in spiritual philosophy, nature, ghost hunting, astrology, and exploring the world with curiosity and heart.
One of the most humbling experiences of my life was witnessing the aurora borealis in Eagle River, Alaska in February 2015—a breathtaking display of light and wonder. That moment reminds me of what I strive to offer my students: a space where brilliance unfolds quietly, unexpectedly, and beautifully. Just like the aurora, growth in music often begins in stillness and blooms into something unforgettable.

Background and Experience

From Flashcards to Finales
I started piano at age 3 under my mum’s loving (and rigorous!) guidance—think flashcard races with my brothers and original compositions by age 5. By 8, I was training at a studio; by 12, I’d added violin and voice to the mix.
High school saw me accompanying jazz choir, writing choral pieces, teaching littles, and playing for my church—all before graduating early at 16.

I earned a full-ride to UVU as the elite choir’s accompanist, composed for signed vocalists and university choirs, and performed The Messiah at the Tabernacle (cue goosebumps). After transferring to Utah State (Go Aggies!), I pursued Music Therapy and Education—and took a detour to Hollywood via American Idol, landing in the top 30s. It was thrilling, but teaching music? That’s my true encore.

Now, I teach up to 40 students ranging from tiny hands to seasoned vocalists, accompany musicians for auditions and competitions, and sub in local schools when needed. I stay active in the music community and love keeping up with national teaching methods—because music education should be as magical as the music itself.
