Individual Piano Lessons

in Artesia, New Mexico

Progress not
Perfection

Piano Lessons.png
  • I offer many different programs within individual piano lessons such as:

    • Sight Reading: Learning to read music fluently

    • Theory: from primer to advanced collegiate levels (the mathematics of music)

    • Improvisation: Playing music on the spot without any sheet music whatsoever

    • Composition: Writing in-depth scores and songs that the student can later turn into masterpieces

    • Suzuki or Ear Training Method: Playing by ear or the “Playback method” (otherwise known as listening to the music and playing back what you hear)

  • I use the Piano Adventure book set as a basis and pair that with 1-3 master performance pieces that they ultimately work toward playing that piece on stage.

  • I put together a technique program that will help the student learn all of the key signatures and they will be able to showcase 5 different skill sets within each key signature. By the end of each semester they will have learned to apply the following 5 skill sets to 3 new majors and 3 new minors:

    • Scales (Major, natural minor, harmonic minor, melodic minor, blues, or the greek scales) in multiple fashions such as parallel or contrasting.

    • Arpeggios

    • Chords (blocked, broken, inverted, 5 qualities of chords, ECT...)

    • Cadences (Plagal, authentic, grand, ECT...)

    • Transpose (Transpose all 6 keys to 1 line of melody at the basic level. They will be learning to transpose lots of different songs approrpriate to their level).

  • Homework for the week will consist of (usually this format, but can change dependent on the student) ether Lesson & Theory or Technique & Performance books paired with their masterpiece song, sight reading materials, and a relative major and minor technique.

  • Practice Time: I gage the practice time goal based on the student. Younger students practice 100 min/week, while middle-aged students practice 120 min/week. High school and adult students make it a goal to practice 150 min/week. That fluctuates dependant on the individual.

  • I typically evaluate the student on an individual level and learn what each student has a propensity toward and work with them on their natural skill. I also try to keep them well-rounded, while simultaneously developing the one or two things they are the strongest in. I can mix and match programs or focus on one or two things depending on what the client and/or student desires.

Individual Voice Lessons

Voice Lessons!.png

My vocalists will be training on breating techniques first and using their resonators to sing. They will learn the anatomy of their vocal trax and the functionality and interworkings of the voice before diving in to becoming a pop star. Although, the over all goal is for each and every one of my students to feel like a star out on that stage. Many people have the misconeption that you need to flex, push, or strain the voice to project to sing louder, when in reality the vocalist really only needs to learn to relax the diaphragm, shape their mouth, mouth, soft palate, and tongue in such a way that will support the volume and carry their voice further. We will apply such techniques and more in the classroom and my students get the option to choose their own pieces so long as it suites their range and fits their voice approrpriately!

Other optional skill sets vocalists may choose to learn in the studio are:

* Sight-Reading

*Ear Training

* Vocal Fry

* Pitch Correction

* Melody and Lyric Composition

* Singing "Rifffs" and "Runs"

* Jazz Improvization or Blues Scales

*Music Theory (101-Collegiate Level)

Every program is designed to cater around the student's specific needs, wants, learning curves, and future goals. Every single program is unique to that vocalist. That is what makes this program so different. YOU get to choose what you want to work on. I will use my professional opinion best I can to make sure that what you decide to work on 1. won't hurt your vocal chords 2. will push you to be a better vocalist and accomplish the goals you have for yourself and 3. that your program won't be too difficult and possibly cause you to drop out). So long as those three things don't interfere with your future, you are practically in charge!

If you are interested in customizing your vocal program today, make sure you set up your free consultation when you contact us!
